Mobil sport kompak mewah ini menggunakan mesin 6-silinder dengan teknologi M-TwinPower Turbo dan sistem injeksi langsung bensin generasi ke-2. Kemampuan mesin menghasilkan tenaga 250 kW atau 340 P. Tak kalah menarik adalah torsi yang dihasilkan, 450 Nm yang diperoleh pada putaran “flat”, yaitu dari 1.500 – 4.500 rpm yang bisa tingkat 50 Nm (overboost). Namun beberapa pengamat menyandingkan 1M Coupe ini dengan Audi RS3 dan Porsche Cayman R sebagai kompetitor terdekatnya. Kedua saingan yang juga berasal dari Jerman tersebut ternyata lebih mahal. Sedangkan Seri-1M dari segi penampilan dinilai impresif dan agresif.



Audi RS3 bermesin 2,5 liter, 5-silinder dengan tenaga 340 PS. Harga lebih mahal, yaitu 52.100 euro atau sekitar Rp 623 juta. Kompetitor paling dekat adalah Porsche Cayman R dengan mesin 3,4 liter, 6-silinder, setelah di-tune-up mampu menghasilkan tenaga 330 PS, namun harganya lebih mahal, Rp 603 juta.

Overboost dan M Differential Lock
Fitur mesin ciri yang menarik dari mobil adalah overboost. Torsi mesin akan bertambah 50 Nm bila gas terus digeber di atas putaran 4.500 rpm. Juga disertai dengan fitur Efficeint Dynamic khas BMW, yaitu rem regeneratif yang mengubah energi kinetik rem menjadi listrik.

Penampilan interior mobil ini, ketika dilonggok, berkesan eksklusif dan kuat nuansa sportynya. Tak kalah menarik adalah aksentuasi menarik, yaitu jahitan benang kulit Alcantara pada jok, dasbor, setir dan bagian ddalam pintu. Kombinasi, jahitan benang besar, gandar dengan warna oranye. Hanya apda setir kombinasi benang jahitan orangye dan biru muda.

Fitur lain adalah “variable M Differential lock” untuk agar torsi bisa dibagi ke setiap roda belakang (kanan) sesuai dengan kondisi jalan yang dipijaknya. Bila salah satu roda slip karena jalan licin, misalnya, roda tersebut akan dikunci dan tenaga di pindah ke roda satu lagi. Karena itu pula, dengan fitur ini kemampuan saat bermanuver di tikungan sangat mantap.

Fitur lain adalah Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), Antilock Brake System (ABS), anti-slip control function (ASC), brake assistant Dynamic Brake Control (DBC), a hill-hold assistant for starting off (setelah behenti di tanjakan, tinggal tekan gas untuk maju), kontrol rem ketika membelok (Cornering Brake Control: CBC). DSC membantu mobil mencegah oversteer ketika membelok di permukaan jalan licin.

Selain jumlah unit terbatas, warna pilihan juga cuma tiga, yaitu oranye (Valencia Orang Metallic), hitam (Black Sapphire Metallic) dan putih (Alpine White).

BMW Ketangkap Kamera Tes "Hybrid" di Seri-5

Bukan rahasia lagi jika BMW disebut-sebut sedang mempersiapkan versi hibrida dari sedan Seri-5 generasi terakhir. Sinyal ini sudah diperlihatkan produsen asal Bavaria tersebut pada Geneva Motor Show 2010 melalui studi Concept 5 Series ActiveHybrid. Seperti hasil intaian carscoop, mobil uji coba tersebut mengenakan "lencana" 535i dan sebuah tempelan bertuliskan "Hybrid Test Vehicle". Jadi, apa lagi yang mau disembunyikan?

Sebagai sebuah "benih", prototipe tersebut mengenakan sejumlah fitur unik sepeti yang sudah disuguhkan, misalnya tidak ada segaris lampu LED futuristik (seharusnya terletak di bagian depan-bawah), spoiler unik di bagian depan, dan velg berdesain spesial. Walau demikian, fitur-fitur tersebut diyakini akan tersedia jika mobil ini nanti jadi diproduksi secara massal.

Di balik kapnya diharapkan terdapat segala hal yang sudah diset dalam mobil konsep saat dalam pameran, antara lain mesin turbo BMW 6 silinder segaris dan mesin elektrik bertenaga 54 HP (40 kW). Andai kita melihat bahwa rata-rata tenaga mobil bermesin 3,0 liter turbo di AS mencapai 300 HP, maka kombinasi dari sistem penggerak ini bisa diasumsikan membuahkan tenaga hingga 340 HP.

Menurut BMW, jika dibandingkan dengan versi konvensionalnya, maka kombinasi tersebut mengurangi 10 persen emisi dan konsumsi bahan bakar. Bahkan, produk tersebut mungkin saja bergerak sepenuhnya dengan mengandalkan motor elektrik sehingga emisi berada pada titik nol untuk kondisi laju dengan kecepatan rendah.

Produksi dari versi Seri-5 hibrida tersebut mungkin akan diperkenalkan pada pameran-pameran internasional tahun depan. Adapun ia akan dijual pada 2012.

BMW Vision Efficient Dynamics atau i8 Tes di Abu Dhabi

Hanya berbeda beberapa hari menjelang akhir 2010, dikabarkan bahwa BMW akan menggunakan nama i8 untuk mobil konsepnya Vision Efficient Dynamics (VED), ternyata muncul juga informasi mobil tersebut sedang dites di sirkuit F1, Yas Marina, Abu Dhabi.Informasi bukan gosip, pasal disertai dengan foto-foto dan video ketika mobil tersebut sedang dites dandimuat oleh anggota Teamspeed.com, Captain Stradale.

Dijelaskan pula oleh worldcarfans.com, VED yang dites sudah dekat dengan versi produksi dan akan dipamerkan pada Frankfurt Motor Show tahun ini, dilangsungkan pada 15 – 25 September.

Pada foto terlihat penampilan BMW VED yang ekstrem masih dipertahankan. Perubahan hanya dilakukan sedikit pada kap mesin dan pintu. Dilaporkan mobil hibrida BMW ini menggabungkan mesin diesel 1,5 liter, tiga silinder plus dua motor listrik yang menghasilkan tenaga 262 kW (356 PS) dan torsi 800 Nm.

Mobil hibrida plug-in ini dilaporkan bisa dikebut dari 0 – 100 km/jam dalam 4,8 detik dan kecepatan tertinggi 250 km/jam (sesuai batas kecepatan tertinggi di Jerman). Tak kalah menarik, disaat harga bahan bakar mulai menjarah kantung, mobil menawarkan konsumsi bahan bakar hanya 3,76 l/km atau 26,5 km/liter. Namun itu, harga yang harus ditebus oleh konsumen untuk mobil yang diluncurkan pada 2013 ini diperkirakan 173.725 euro atau hampir sekitara Rp 2 miliar. Itu di eropada, kalau di Indonesia, bisa dua kali lipat! Hitung sendirilah!

Lucu Juga Megacity Mobil Listrik BMW

Pada akhir Januari lalu, Kompas.com sempat mewartakan perihal BMW tengah mengembangkan mobil listrik bersama mitranya dari China (Brilliance China Automotive Holding Ltd). Basis dari kendaraan itu memakai Seri 5 dan diberi nama sementara ECHO.

Namun ada kabar baru dari pabrikan mobil asal Jerman yang dilansir Autonews dan Autoevolution (3/2) bahwa pada 21 Februari mereka akan mengumumkan proyek tersebut, termasuk nama kendaraan dan kapan mulai diproduksi. Sumber dari dalam (BMW) menyampaikan mobil listrik itu memakai sebutan "i", cuma belum tahu apa i2,i3,i4,i5 dan seterusnya.

Mengenai bentuknya, sudah diberitakan kalau Megacity pertama ini menggabungkan tenaga listrik dengan bodi serat karbon yang dibangun di atas sasis aluminium. Platformnya mereka namakan Life-Drive.

Tenaga, kemungkinan sama dengan konsep kendaraan listrik ActiveE yang telah dikembangkan menjadi 170 HP dan torsi 250 Nm. Sama seperti MINI E, Megacity kini mulai menjalani tahap pengujian, sambil dipikirkan juga bagaimana pemasarannya nanti.

"Kami sedang mencari alternatif, apakah mobil ini dibeli secara tradisional atau dalam bentuk sewa," ujar Kepala Penjualan BMW Robertson. Prinsip BMW di sini,"Kami tak ingin sekadar menjual mobil, tapi lebih bagaimana menggunakannya."

The BMW 1 Series Convertible has a large number of innovative technologies and intelligent solutions that are specially developed to increase efficiency. The Auto Start Stop function, for example, avoids unnecessary engine idling and saves fuel at every red light, and, thanks to Brake Energy Regeneration, the battery is recharged during braking or coasting with the energy that had previously accelerated the vehicle.

Highly developed engines, refined aerodynamics and the innovative lightweight construction of the BMW 1 Series Convertible also facilitate optimum energy exploitation. The sum of all these measures is BMW EfficientDynamics. The result is less fuel consumption, more driving pleasure.


Efficient engines.
Mature but not at the end of the development cycle: the combustion engine still holds considerable potential. With every new generation of engines the BMW engineers set new benchmarks to increase dynamics and efficiency. And this is also true of the petrol and diesel engines in the BMW 1 Series Convertible.

The perfect combination of power and efficiency. The BMW TwinPower Turbo straight six-cylinder in the BMW 135i combines a TwinScroll turbocharger with Valvetronic and direct petrol injection. The result is 225 kW (306 hp), 400 powerful Newton metres and fuel consumption of only 8.6 l/100 km. In contrast, the 125i impresses with a top speed of 238 km/h at 160 kW (218 hp) and an acceleration of 6.8 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h.

Especially efficient in operation are the straight four-cylinder engines of the BMW 120i and 118i. High Precision Injection, the direct petrol injection system, and the valve control with twin Vanos enable an impressively low average fuel consumption. The BMW 120i gets by 6.8 and the BMW 118i on as little as 6.5 l/km.

Diesel engines in the BMW 1 Series Convertible also combine high cost-effectiveness with excellent performance. The 123d four-cylinder diesel engine with variable twin turbo and third-generation common-rail injection system impresses with its spontaneous response, 150 kW (204 hp) of output and a powerful torque. And all this at a fuel consumption level of just 5.3 l/100 km. Even more economical are the engines in the BMW 118d and 120d with outstanding consumption figures of only 4.8 and 5.0 l/100 km.


Aerodynamics.
With the airstream on your side. The innovative design of the BMW 1 Series Convertible consistently adheres to the BMW EfficientDynamics philosophy and selectively channels the airstream in order to reduce drag and hence fuel consumption.

The aerodynamically optimised front apron of the BMW 1 Series Convertible embodies the BMW EfficientDynamics philosophy as a visible design feature. The integrated Aero wheel housing guides the airstream along the front wheel housings via two vertical inlets. Thus accelerated, the stream of air then forms a “curtain” around the outer sides of the wheels. This reduces turbulence as well as drag and fuel consumption. At the same time, the fresh air provides optimum cooling for the engine and additional components such as radiator and intercooler.

If required, the optionally available 17-inch Streamline 370 light-alloy wheels additionally reduce eddy formation directly on the rims, further improving the aerodynamics of the BMW 1 Series Convertible. The result is increased driving stability, a more agile driving performance and less fuel consumption.

Brake Energy Regeneration.
Until now, braking meant losing energy. Brake Energy Regeneration puts an end to this by winning energy back during braking to charge the battery.

As soon as you take your foot off the accelerator or brake in the BMW 1 Series Convertible, the generator is engaged and converts excess kinetic energy into electrical energy which is saved in the battery. Once the battery is fully charged, the generator is disengaged from the engine. This unburdens the engine and reduces emissions. Fuel consumption savings means that there is more power available for acceleration.

A relaxed journey begins before you even set off. The seats in the BMW 1 Series Convertible can be adjusted to perfectly match your desired sitting position, while the BMW belt holder makes sure that you can conveniently reach your seat belt from every angle.

On the move as well, Original BMW Accessories substantially increase your travelling comfort. The BMW wind deflector, for example, with its exclusive printed design reduces air turbulence inside the car when the roof is open and protects your shoulders and neck against drafts. A folding mechanism allows simple loading and unloading of the rear seat bench. If you are travelling with less luggage but more friends instead, the wind deflector can be quickly stowed away in the boot to save space.

Comfort has priority for rear passengers too. The base attachment for the Travel & Comfort System fits to the headrests on the driver and/or passenger seats to open up a variety of flexible extensions. The BMW folding table clicks easily into the base system in seconds to give a stable surface for working, playing and reading. Safety : Dynamic Stability Control.
The chassis control systems of the BMW 1 Series Convertible fitted as standard make it easy to control the vehicle even under adverse conditions and actively increase your driving safety. The integrated traction modus (DTC) inspires drivers with sporting ambitions by optimising forward thrust and providing even more driving pleasure.

Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) optimises both driving stability and traction when setting off and accelerating. In the event of understeering or oversteering, torque is reduced and brakes are applied individually to the wheels. The vehicle stabilises within milliseconds and hazardous skidding is prevented from the very outset.

And your driving pleasure also benefits from the electronic chassis control: at the sporting limits, Dynamic Traction Control (DTC) increases the slip on the drive wheels to give optimum traction on every surface.

The BMW 125i and 135i offer four additional extended DSC functions:
1. The Brake Standby function reduces the stopping distance in emergencies.
2. The Dry-Braking function enhances brake response in wet conditions.
3. The hill-start assistant makes it possible to set off comfortably on slopes, without rolling backwards.
4. Fading Compensation allows consistent braking performance even if the brakes have heated up.

Reinforcements in the underbody, sills and door areas give the body design of the BMW 1 Series Convertible an extremely high torsional strength and enable it to withstand even high impact speeds. In such events, special deformation elements in the front and rear bumpers yield at exactly defined positions and thus provide a crumple zone to specifically transform the impact energy. The body is therefore able to withstand collision strengths of up to 15 km/h without damage and provides safe protection for the vehicle and its occupants.
